Week - A Wave in the House

We've had a wave of Republians win seats in the House, and they will take control of the House of Representatives in January when the next Congress begins - led by Reppresenative John Boehner of Ohio. (The Democrats had control for the previous two years). For today's blog, I would like you to explore a website, www.realclearpolitics.com and read about what we can expect out of the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives for the upcoming term.

Today's Blog:

1) Write a 250 word response explaining what the goals of the Republicans will be in the House - explain how they differ from what the Democrats have focused on. Be specific and clear in your explanation.

2) Do you believe this it the right direction? What do you agree or disagree with? Are there other goals that you think should be focused on?

Due: Next Friday

  1. The republicans plan to “move America forward”. That can mean a number of things, in a good or bad way. But anyway this goes down the republicans will still have the house and have control over legislative matters. What I think that they will do is probably raise taxes for their own funding, but that is just my honest opinion. Think of it this way, if president Obama is a democrat, there is a full house of representatives run by republican politicians. Shouldn’t Obama be a little overwhelmed with this? Why doesn’t he do something about it? These are the questions I am asking and I don’t expect an answer. Based off of ihatethemedia.com Boehner’s plan is to cut spending, stop tax hike, and create more jobs. This sound like they can be either good or bad, like any other political move, there will always be consequences. In this case Boehner will be forced to force to raise taxes eventually in the future. But according to online sources, it says that Boehner’s term started in 1991, which means that his term will be ending sometime next year in 2011. Boehner said to reporters this week that we will “listen to the American people and follow the American people’s will.” This is a pretty good promise, if he keeps his promise than that would be a good thing. But not even the greatest politician of all, whoever that may be, can keep his or her promises that he or she had made to the American people as a whole. Overall, II trust that Boehner will do a good job and that he will make the right decisions for the American people.

  2. 1. John Boehner had made a list of a couple things he wanted to change, one of the things are
    • Let Americans read the bills before they are brought to a vote. He says the speaker shouldn’t let the bill to be voted unless its posted publicy online for atleast 3 days.
    • No more “Comprhensive bills“. Boehner was saying that the house should stop the soo called Comprehensive bills with there thousand pages of legislative text that make it easier for them to hide stuff. Like spending projects, and job – killing policies. He says that the American people are kinda suspicious of the objecive and not well served by comprehensive.
    • No more bills written behind closed doors in the speakers office. Boehner believes that the bills should be written by legislastors in committee in plain public view. he says that the should also issue things should be advanced one at a time, and then the speaker should place an emphasis on smaller, more focused legislation that is properly scrutinized, constitutionally sound, and consistent with Americans. They demand for a less costly, less intrusive government.
John boehner says the speacker and the congress is a servant to the American people. He says the individual entrusted with that high honor and responsibility should act like hes suppossed. The speaker should be hiding in the in the speakers office with that much power. But they rather ensure that the elected people keep the oath to defend the constitution and the American people.
    2. In my opinion I might have to agree what this guy is going with. I belive that he can make some changes but again its all about patience. I mean who knows that maybe other elected officials were maybe makin changes but took awhile or maybe took longer than they expected.

  3. Republicans believe in many different things then the democrats do. As of 2004, the Republicans have the 2nd most votes with 55 million. Republicans believe that taxes should not be raised at all. They usually have social and economical values. I believe that since we are in an economical crisis, a republican candidate couldn’t hurt. Many of our past presidents like Abraham Lincoln have been republican. In the house, many representatives from both the republican and democrat parties have been wanting to put aside their differences and work together. I believe this would help the US as a whole because I think that we can’t really work with just one party, if we put them together, we get so many more ideas to use and so many more minds to think with. There is one big problem though, Barak Obama is a democrat and after the republican surge, people have been saying it will be harder for Obama to retract the troops from Iraq. More Republicans in Washington may also mean trouble for Obama's efforts to improve U.S. relations with Iran and Cuba and restart disarmament talks with North Korea. Some republicans believe that Obama’s interests are wrong and now after their surge, they may try to slow Obama’s programs. If I could make them, I think that it would be a very good idea for both republicans and Obama to work together. I do believe if this happened the US would be going in the right direction. One other goal I believe we should work on is how much the US spends.

I do believe that this is the right thing but both sides have valid points that can help the U.S.
I think they should focus more on helping the economy more

  6. 1) Write a 250 word response explaining what the goals of the Republicans will be in the House - explain how they differ from what the Democrats have focused on. Be specific and clear in your explanation. Allow small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income. Require congressional approval for any new federal regulation that would add to the deficit
    2) Do you believe this it the right direction? What do you agree or disagree with? Are there other goals that you think should be focused on? Im going to till u now I realy don’t care about any of this because in not voting are anything. In I also don’t agree wit any one bc I don’t really care. I would pick the person who has the best speech.

  7. John Boehner and some other republicans plan to lower taxes that apparently democrates have been raising for the middle class and making everything worse for our country. Boehner plans to move America forward by making student loans 10x more expensive so students can't just get money from the government and walk away from it. I think that's a problem because some people can't afford to go to college and they might become discouraged and not go into college putting more uneducated or less educated people in our jobs and out on the streets. Joe boehner ants more jobs for Americans and the only way he can do that is by making collge more expensive. This looks lke a clear cut system to get more people to join the military forces because everyone knows how hard it is to get a proper job in today's economy, but it's so much easier to just go to a recruitment office and sign up for the marines, army, airforce, or navy. I think this is the wrong directino to be moving. I think that e should be putting mroe people into college and that way we wouldn't be having this money crisis because then people will know how to manage their money and thy can find jobs and get better pay because once yo get out of college you may have a ton of loans but you'll be able to pay those off in a matter of a few years or a few months.

  8. Theres no question about it that Republicans belive in different things then the democrats do. Republicans are pledging to repeal Obama care, and protect American jobs. Republicans believe that the taxes should not be raised at all. John boehner also thinks that we should let Americans read the bills before they are voted on. He says the public should be able to view the bills that are going to be voted on. I personally think that it is a very smashing idea for both the Republicans and Obama to work as a team. The united states needs to stop spending so much cash so therefore i think this team "repobamas" thats what the team would be called.

  9. Congressman John Boehner is to lower the cost of health care and protect American jobs. The american people even stated it themselves, but Washington Democrats refused to listen. Taxes should most definitely be lowered its not only hurting our economy but is also hurting the people of America. I think that Republicans and Obama- Democrats should just all come together and work as one, it would be an 100% improval on the united states. John Boener is reasuring trust in government and putting Americans back to work! I belive this man will change alot for the better and make a change for us all.

  10. The Republicans will be focusing on creating more jobs reducing the deficit. They also want to put an end to Obama care. Finally to move our country forward. Basically They want to make more jobs for the American people. Reduce the deficit which means they want to reduce our countrys’ debt. They also want to cut 100 billion from people’s taxes. They basically want to do a u-turn on the direction Obama has been working in. They want to cut spending and work with Obama But only on their terms.

I personally agree with most of what they are saying. However I disagree with taking Obama-care fully away. I think that it was a step in the right direction. Also the Republicans should be more compromising in the up coming term with our President, if we want anything to get done then they need to pull their big kid pants on and be able to negotiate, it can’t be all about them. They can’t lead a huge feud with Obama because they have to look at the bigger picture.

  11. The Republicans want to make Obama a one-term president and to repeal the health care bill the Democratic president Obama set into motion. John Boehner a Republican said Republicans will “work with the administration when they agree with the people — and confront them when they don’t”. Are the “people” mentioned just Republicans or do they actually mean all the American people. Also John Boehner says the health care bill will “kill jobs in America, ruin the best health care system in the world, and bankrupt our country. That means that we have to do everything we can to try to repeal this bill . . . ’’ based on ideological judgment not fact. Republican leaders want to keep tax breaks for the upper class that will add $700 Billion to the debt in a decade. You can’t just declare yourself a good listener of the people that will do what they want without proving it first.

  12. 1) Write a 250 word response explaining what the goals of the Republicans will be in the House - explain how they differ from what the Democrats have focused on. Be specific and clear in your explanation.

The goals of the Republicans will have to target in the house will be the economy for obvious reasons, considering it’s one of the United States biggest problems. Also I think that they could also try to help the people understand politics and that it is not a “blame game”. As John Boehner talks about how in the last two years the American people have been thrown into a unstable relationship with the Government officials. The Government should be working on gaining the trust from the people, And Show more empathy in bills and explaining to the people more than one side. A statement that I agree with completely is to allow Americans to read bills before they are brought to vote. This idea could force citizens to become more involved and to analyze what is happening more closely. I think people should have the right to know exactly what is happening in the government, Because this just creates ridiculous conspiracies that have no evidence but people believe them because it’s what they hear. Also I would like to see the ongoing debates between the democrats and republicans, it comes off as stubborn. I think that both sides can make good points but each one is to stubborn to agree with each other, I would like to see the republican’s in the house change that. We all think to highly of ourselves because of how powerful of a nation we are, and it seems as if people are ignoring history as it repeats itself constantly.
    2) Do you believe this is the right direction? What do you agree or disagree with? Are there other goals that you think should be focused on?
I believe that this could go in the right direction, but there are always flukes. One of the main goals that should be focused on is the order of how society is run. Also that there can be no perfect form of government which was found out way back in ancient greece. I believe this can run in the right direction but the process of everything should slow down.

  13. 1. The republicans have taken the house after the elections took place. Many of the American citizens are un happy towards President Barack Obama because of the decisions he has made. Even if people do not like the candidates many people voted for them because they are republican do not support Obama any more. The republicans are going to try to accomplish what they want. They will try to make it so that when reelection comes around that they can beat Obama and have a republican president again. They have plans to help American families by widening highways and making bike paths for daily commute. With the republicans in control over the house they are going to try to pass the laws they think will benefit them and not the democrats to them this is their chance. The republican house now wants to pull America out of this slump and be the heroes in government. The Republicans plan to move Americans forward weather it is good or bad they will do so. They plan to raise taxes to help us get back on track. They also plan to lower heath care and make it easier for people to pay their bills. Who knows if what they say will hit or miss hopefully everything they promise will come true. The democrats may have similar goals but since they are no longer in control they won’t have as much control if any to pass their own laws. That is why being in charge of the house is important.
    2. I believe this is the right direction for the republicans to go. I hope with their decisions we can get out of this crises in America. I agree with lowering heath care, taxes, and with making more roads and bike paths for commute. There is nothing that I really disagree in I just hope everything works out to plan.

  14. 1.The republican party plans to move forward and believes that America is an idea. They plan to repair our economy and reclaim the government. They also plan to rise joblessness and crush debt to help the economy. Republicans believe that people institute a new governing agenda and set a different course. They pledge many things. One thing that they plan to pledge is honor families, traditional marriage, life, and the private and faith-based organizations that form the core of our American values.Which I think is a good thing because than people can live a normal lifes. Also I think in this pledge they are saying something about they don’t believe in divorce in this statement. Which we see the divorce rate go up and up. Another thing they pledge is uphold the purpose and promise of a better America, knowing that to whom much is given, much is expected and that the blessings of our liberty buoy the hopes of mankind. What this statement is saying is the reason why people come to america and the Republicans like how that is. This is different from Democratic plan to cut taxes by 95 percent for the working families. They are also trying to prepare our economy as best as they can.
2.Will I really don’t understand the huge differnce in poltics. I believe as a nation that if we work together we can have a better economy either party. I just depends on who the president is. One by the party but as a person. I also think are many focus should be on the economy that is the huge worry in america right now.

  15. Since the republicans are going to be in the House, they made many goals that we all hope they obtain. The republicans have a plan to move America forward. They plan on doing this by offering the opportunity for more businesses to have health care, cut spending by enforcing budget caps to limit federal spending, and provide resources to the troops. The republicans also said that they plan to focus on the world’s economic crisis, which is becoming a major problem. Although they want to turn America around, they still plan to keep the same American values, and hope that the rest of America can do the same. By doing that, they pledge to follow the rules of the constitution and focus on the people and their needs. Also, they want to promote greater liberty, because they feel that it is fair for the people and that it goes along with the American values. When I was looking through the goals of each of the parties, I feel that majority of it was the same. They both said that they want to help not only the major businesses, but the small businesses as well, but the republicans want to offer them health care while the democrats want to provide them tax breaks and better access to credit. Also, both of them want to help America out of the job slump. They want to be able to provide more jobs to the people and decrease the number of employment.

To be honest, I don’t really understand politics that well, so I can’t really say who I agree with. Looking at the goals of the two parties and seeing the similarities, I believe that if we combined the two parties’ ideas, we would have a greater outcome. They both focus of the main things that America needs to overcome our problems. I think that the goals that they plan to obtain are exactly what they should be focusing on.

  16. 1) I think that nothing will get done because when ever the senate wants to past somthing nothing it will never get pasted becasue the house isn't going to want to agree with them. It will aslo happen the other way around as well. I don't think that our county will be in good house becasue thing will get done.
    2) I disagree with what has been done becasue i don't think that rep. and dem. Like each other every much so i don't think that this will work out. But what do i know it might we just have to wait and see for our self

  18. From when the start of the Republican party, they are looking to manage with taxes cuts and manage spending. Since the Republicans have take chair they have had a change to go over some key fiscal goals. With a democratic president and and senate there will be a slim chance that many bills will be passed have that fact in state. The central republican talking point is the freeze in non-defense discretionary spending. Another goal is to raise the tax revenue. But there are different ways to achieve this goal, such as a more efficient system or by fostering economic growth. Any serious act to bring the budget under control needs to take decisive aim at government spending. Some of ways to reconstruct this problem. Some of these ways would be the privatization of rising the retirement age or cutting retirement benefits to the already retired. Ultimately the programs need to be reworked for people in need or people who cannot afford things. Saying all of this they should take a look at the pentagon spending. The military should not be exempt from anything but spending can be revised since they have giving a lot to our amount of debt.
I do believe that this is the right suggestions because I think the Republican Party can do a lot with what we already have despite the fact that they are going to be held back by the democrats

  19. In the article it states that a government should be, “servants of the people.” But the government shouldn’t expect its people to be slaves. In order to move forward as a people and a nation we need some guidelines for the government officials to follow and make a clear distinction to them what it is we want and how we want it done. We must eliminate “earmarks” also called loopholes, which politicians tend to take when times seem hard and they want an easy way out. We as American people should have a chance to know about the laws that are being passed.” Let Americans read every bill that wants to be passed.” In the article it clearly states that the speaker of the house should speak up and bring this up saying that the American people are not well informed and have a right to, they should post the bill wanting to be passed on the web to reassure us that it is not a law that will be effecting us negatively. There is another mutiny being done, by politicians that affect us and or future generations it is making and passing laws behind closed doors. This is probably the worst of all the bad that the government has done, not tell us what he is going to do writing it out and destroying what little we already have. “Comprehensive Bills” states that everything discussed in the government and any other branch of politics should be publically announced to aid our wellbeing. We as American citizens must take these precautions so we know for sure we aren’t being tricked by a very intelligent government.

I believe 100 percent that this is an absolutely incredible process because if we don’t do it the government can be tricking and messing with us behind our backs. The comprehensive bill is definitely the most important it tells the government not to hide stuff from us which is totally right.

  21. Yes the republicans did win the majority of the election they plan on doing a lot starting off with creating more jobs and help to stimulate the economy again. Also that is the leader of the republicans party current goal right now to help stimulate the economy again and to create more jobs because of the currentunemployment rate that we now have. The republicans and democrats are both in the house obviously and they both have different disagreements and agreements obviously aswell but they both are trying to help the U.s. is basically why they are there in the first place. Currently the democrats run the house etc. not only because a democrat is the current president but they had more represenatives in the house but it obviously is changing now with the current amount of republicans that just got elected.

  22. 1. The Republicans have created a list that states what they plan to do while in the House of Representatives called “Pledge to America”, some of the ideas are;
They want to repeal and replace health care with a new health care polices.
give members at least 3 days to read bills before a vote so the members have chance to review and access the bill in its entirety
They want to stop Obama from raising taxes on the working people. He plans to raise taxes on even people or families making less than $250,000 which has not really happen in the last 10 years.
Giving small business the ability to take a 20 percent of their income is used for the tax deduction.
When concerning jobs they would like or require congressional approval for any new regulation that would add to our countries deficit.
Concerning our defense they want to provide resources to our troops however, the Democrats are working on bringing our troops.

When you look at the list of what the republicans have stated these were some of the same concerns of the Democrats a few years ago with the “We can” change motto.

Doing some research an interesting comment was made by the Free Enterprise Nation that Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, etc. all have in common is to tax the private sector in order to pay for the public servants jobs.

Looking at the material you can get bogged down with what the party is really trying to accomplish and many times good bills are watered or changed to get them passed because of the politics that goes on inside DC.

    2. My belief is that go back to basics stop trying to create laws and regulations because of the parties affiliations but do what is right for the American people of today. Get back to paying the countries bills and taking care of our citizens. There were immigration laws when my ancestors came and I believe we should look at what we are doing that allows us to have so many illegal immigrants that are costing us money.
