Week - A Wave in the House
We've had a wave of Republians win seats in the House, and they will take control of the House of Representatives in January when the next Congress begins - led by Reppresenative John Boehner of Ohio. (The Democrats had control for the previous two years). For today's blog, I would like you to explore a website, www.realclearpolitics.com and read about what we can expect out of the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives for the upcoming term.
Today's Blog:
1) Write a 250 word response explaining what the goals of the Republicans will be in the House - explain how they differ from what the Democrats have focused on. Be specific and clear in your explanation.
2) Do you believe this it the right direction? What do you agree or disagree with? Are there other goals that you think should be focused on?

NYT - Blog Post
Hi all,
For today, I would like you take the Article you chose from yesterday's NYT's article and answer the following questions:
1) Please explain the who, what, where, when, why of this article. For the why, please explain why the action or subject is doing something in the article - this may be applied differently depending on your article.
2) Why did you choose this article? What value does it have to you? What value would it provide to our class?
3) In reading your article, please list ALL words you did not know and define them (google has an online dictionary, or there are plenty of others online.
4) Do you have an opinion or reaction to the article that you read? How would you frame a discussion on this article to the class? What debatable issues or questions could we tie to this article? Please provide at least three questions, and how you would respond to them.
5) Was there any noticable bias to your article? If yes, do you think this bias is ok, or are they missing a key part of the story? If no, do you think there is ever a situation when a journalist can be bias?
6) Please find two other news articles describing the purpose of your article from other news sources. Please explain how the coverage of these articles was different to the NYT. For this, I am asking you to essentially look at the same story, just covered by a different news outlet, and then compare the differences. In the end, which source do you think did the best job, why?
(Make sure to provide the links - use google or google news to help located, also you can check CNN, FoxNews, BBC, Chicago Tribune)
