The DREAM act is an act that has been circling around the congress for about 10 years now. It was first introduced by republican sen. Orrin hatch of Utah. The idea of the bill was for people who enter the US prior to age 16, and they are given the opportunity to become a legal American citizen. Those who are younger than 35, have a GED or high school diploma, and have lived in the US for 5 or more years, would be eligible for conditional legal status for 6 years. Then, you must either graduate 2 years of college or serve in the military to gain full status.
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act this link describes what the bill is and what it stands for.
http://www.nilc.org/immlawpolicy/dream/index.htm this link has many tabs going in depth about immigration and public benefits/issues that tie along with the act.
My opinion on the DREAM act is that I don’t believe this would do anything to stop illegal immigrants. I think that the act won’t be something that never got pushed enough or enforced enough because of how easy people can get into our country. People get into our country so easily and there is little we do to stop them. Maybe if we were more organized or more passionate about this issue, we would get it resolved. Although I don’t agree with the act 100% I do think it has some good points. For example, allowing people to gain citizenship is a good idea depending on what they do to achieve it. For example letting immigrants go to high school and college is a great idea. So all in all if we enforce the act more, I think it would actually benefit us.
The bill would give people who were 16 or under when they arrived to the U.S. the opportunity to become legal citizens. Aliens who have a GED or high school degree, have lived in the states for at least five years, and are younger than 35 are eligible for legal status for six years. During the six years, they would have to complete two years of college or server two years in the military.

Some people think that the bill is too controversial to pass. Others think it’s a good idea because it would boost recruitment and create a level of higher education.
2. http://immigration.change.org/blog/category/dream_act
The bill is not dead but its being put on hold. Polls have showed that a good amount of the public agree with the bill.
The Dream Act is a very controversial bill. I think it would be a good idea for many reasons. It would encourage minorities to join the military. Also, it would encourage aliens to receive a higher education which would help in the future because most of our country will be the minorities of today. These minorities will be running our country so it would do no harm to encourage them to get a better education. I do not understand why this would offend anyone because it is only going to help people.
The dream act is a bill that has been trying to be passed for almost 10 years now. This bill is trying to get people that had come to the United States when they were 16 and make them legal citizens. If you had a high school degree or a GED and younger than 35 year you could be legal for 6 years. Not only that but you have to have 5 years where you had to live in the United States before you become legal.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/21/AR2010092106100.html
The articles are talking about how the Senate would rather hold off on the bill then rather kill it. The Republicans keep holding off the bill for many years now.
In my opinion I think that the dream act is a good idea. I think it is fair; many people come to the United States looking for a job because in other countries they may not have as many opportunities then the US. They want to work and have the American dream, if they didn’t want the opportunities they wouldn’t want to come to the US. I think illegal citizens should have the option of coming here but I think it’s a good idea that they have a GED or high school degree. For most jobs you need a degree for anyone so it’s just as fair.
1. What is it?
ReplyDeleteIt’s a bill that congress is debating against to let illegal Immigrants to have a U.S Citizenship. It’s actually been a topic around congress for almost 10 years now. People who were under 16 when they entered the United States is able to become a U.S Citizens. Also if you have a GED or high school degree, have lived in the United States for at least five years, and are younger than 35 would be able to be legal for only 6 years. But during those 6 years they have to complete at least 2 years of college or serve 2 or more years in the Military. They cannot also have criminal records.
2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act
This link gives a lot of information it says u must be between the ages of 12 and 35 at the time the Law is enacted but must have arrived in the United States before the age of 16. Plus u must also have "Good moral character”. You also have to in the United States for at least 5 years since they arrived to the country.
http://www.change.org/ideas/view/the_dream_act_for_america_in_2010
“Many American students graduate from college and high school each year, and face a roadblock to their dreams” this is the kind of problems that illegal immigrants have to be dealing with. So that’s when the Dream Act came along.
3. Well in my opinion I think that they should pass the bill because sure they came in illegally but come on all they want is a better life style to help support their family and have a good life you know. Plus the bill has actually good expectations to be legal in the United States. But to me when they have that 6 year period to get the GED or something. Do they automatically become a Citizen? That’s the only question I have. Kids these days have dreams and they want to become someone and why stop them from having it here you know.
its a bill taht is debated against to let illegal immigrants to have a U.S. Citezenship. its actually been around congress for 10 years now. people that were under 16 when they entered the united states is able to become a U.S. Citizens also if you have a GED or high school degree have lived in the U.S. for at least 6 years and are younger than 35 would be able to be legal for only 6 but in those six years they have to complete at least 2 years of college and or millitary they also have to have a clean slate with no criminal records at all
ReplyDelete....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act
It gives info a lot actually it says you have to be between the ages of 12 and 35 at the time the law is being used but must have arrived in the U.S. before the age of 16 and you also you must not have any cruminal records and when you arrive in the country you must be within the united stateds for 6 years.
http://www.change.org/ideas/view/the_dream_act_for_america_in_2010
lots of student graduate from college and highschool each year and face an obsticle to get to your dreams this is the kind of problems that illegal immigrants deal with until the dream act came up in the united states on august 1 2001
my opinion is that they shud change up the bill so that they have to go trhu 4 years of college to become a citizen not 2 then they should pass it i think it is a good thing but they should have to work to get it like 2 years isnt that big of a deal but 4 is so i think they must have gone to college for 4 years and to highschool throughout i think it is a good bill and shud be changed a bit and passed
1. What is it?
ReplyDelete-It's a bill that states that allows illegal immigrants be able to gain a citizenship by goin through highschool, and either 2 or more years in the military or college
2. Find two outside sources, summarize each one in two sentences and list links.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act
This isa wikipedia file so it might not be totally correct but it says that people of ages 12-35 are the only elligible people for this bill. This will allow any illigal immirgrant to gain a citizenship in 6 or more years.
http://www.change.org/ideas/view/the_dream_act_for_america_in_2010
this article tells us about the things that illegal immigrants are facing when they get out of college. They can't get proper jobs and follow their dreams because they dont have a citizenship.
3. What is your opinion - make sure that you write in a professional manner that is appropriate and supported with research.
I think that this bill is a great idea. Too many people live in terrible conditions and try very hard and go to extremes to get a taste of the good life. People in America complain about no jobs for them when the unemployment rate in america is about 9.6%. how can people complain about they're jobs when they aren't employed themselves, and they are living lives that are destructive. The United States is a country built on immigrants and you can never stop that flow into America.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20100921/pl_yblog_upshot/what-is-the-dream-act
ReplyDeleteThe whole idea behind the dream act is to give people who were under 16 years of age when the enter the United States to be able to have that opportunity to become legal residents. If you have your High school degree have lived in the U.S. for atleast and you are younger than 35 years of age would be eligible for conditional legal status for six years. I would summarize this link as very helpful to understand what exactly the Dream Act. It is also beneficial to understand why people fight for it so much.
http://www.dailytitan.com/2010/09/22/dream-act/
This link again was very helpful to understand exactly why and the Dream Act does and why it is such a big thing in congress right now etc. This article is also a great way to get some sources from people and seeing what they have to say about the Dream Act.
In my up close and personal opion the Dream Act is a very great idea. I think that it would be very beneficial and helpful to many upon 100s of people become citizens in the U.S. In 2007 the bill fell short only 8 votes and once again in Congress being discussed etc. This helps immigrants who want to have a higher education and serve their country etc. do so. If the bill is passed which again in my personal opion would be very god a estimated 2.1 million people would be able to qualify the program but only a estimated 825,000 people will be eligible after the 6 year time period. Sadly though again in my opion which is dumb these people would not be able to afford and go to college but in my opion I believe that these people should be getting scholarship money and or a maybe even possibly a little money for the government to be able to go to college. I also believe that again this would be very beneficial to help these people and it would be could for everyone else as well. The argument it is amnesty which in my opion is ridiculous and a little be offensive to these people I know I would be offended. Also people who said they were for it some are now against the Dream Act for example people like Sen. Bob Bennet. This is also very ridiculous in opion aswell and im for the Dream Act.
What is it?
ReplyDeleteIt is a bill stating that if you have immigrated here and are under the age of 35, you have a chance at conditional legality. The conditions are that you have to live here for at least five years, complete 2 years of college or serve 2 year in the military. Then they would be qualified for U.S citizenship.
Source1: http://colorlines.com/archives/2010/09/after_failed_defense_bill_vote_dream_act_finds_its_way_back.html
It states that undocumented citizens have the right to earn documentation. To qualify you have to live in the U.S for 6 years and have a clean criminal record.
Source2: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/24/opinion/lweb24immig.html
This Bill was blocked in the senate on Tuesday. It is telling us that it will raise the immigration level because it is to easy to claim they were 15 when they first immigrated.
Personal Opinion:
My opinion is that they should not pass this bill. There is already a large sum of illegal immigrants in the USA and it would be too easy for them to lie and say they were 15 when they immigrated, even though it may not be true for all of the immigrants. Seeing that there is no way to confirm the age of when they first immigrated it would be a failed attempt to evenly distribute the documentation. And if this bill is to be passed it would be a gateway for a higher immigration rate, because they know if they are under 16 they are almost assured citizenship. On the other hand if this bill were to be passed it would give good opportunities for the working immigrants who have done a lot for our country, and have helped with the economy by filling job spots for the betterment of the business they work for, because i think that immigrants work harder then americans do overall. All in all if I support some aspects of the bill and other I do not support. If this bill is passed I do not think it will have a great effect on me. On my last point if this bill is passed it will greatly increase our country’s military and overall make it stronger.
1.The DREAM Act has actually been floating around Congress for almost 10 years now. The people who have a GED or who have graduated highschool and who have lived in the united states for at least five years and who are younger than thirty five are eligible. During that time, they would have to graduate from two years of college or honorably serve two or more years in the military. Then they would qualify for U.S. citizenship.
ReplyDelete1. http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20100921/pl_yblog_upshot/what-is-the-dream-act

2. http://immigration.change.org/blog/category/dream_act
The bill is not dead but its being put on hold. Polls have showed that a good amount of the public agree with the bill.
I don't beleive that this will stop illegal immigrants from coming to the united states. Although I do beleive that this is a good law. It gives them an opportunity to fufill their dream, yet they're still working for it. So in the end I think that this bill will become fairly succesful and benifital.
The dream act is a bill that has been hanging around for 10 years. If this bill were to be passed, then it would allow illegal emigrants to become legal U.S. citizens. The people would have to be under the age of 16. The bill states that for the illegal to become legal, they must complete high school, they must go through two years of college, and must join the military and serve. Once they pass through this they will qualify to for citizenship. But they must have no criminal record what-so-ever.
ReplyDeleteArticle # 1 http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/22/us/politics/22immig.html?scp=1&sq=passion%20for%20immigration&st=cse
In this article Cesar Vargas immigrated to the United States with his parents. He graduated with his high school and in his high school there is a big passion to serve their country. Cesar Vargas wishes that he can become a military lawyer but he can’t due to the fact that he is illegal. The only way he would be able to serve his country is if the Dream Act were to be signed.
Article #2 http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/24/opinion/lweb24immig.html?scp=1&sq=Dream%20Act&st=cse
this article sounds like it is against this bill being passed. It claims that if the U.S. were to pass this bill, that it would be easier for Immigrants to become illegal and that it will increase immigration.
My opinion on this law is that it should be passed. Article 2 states that it would cause immigration to go up and for many people this is a problem because many immigrants occupy jobs that a U.S. citizen would want to take. But in my opinion, many U.S. citizens say this because they don’t want to take that extra push and work harder to keep their job. Many immigrants come here with the dedication to feed their families and provide a better life for themselves and friends and family. And this dedication is something that if everyone were to have, everyone were to get there work and tasks done. Since many of the legal’s don’t have this dedication; they don’t have any way with competing against the immigrants. This bill would in a way filter out the immigrants that don’t want anything good to do in the United States. And the ones that actually want to have a positive life can accomplish that. I have a strong opinion and when I express I don’t intend to express it with racism of offense its simply the way I feel on that U.S. citizens know that they can’t handle the competition so they try to get rid of the competition.

ReplyDelete1. The Dream Act is when people are the age of 16 and when they entered the United States the opportunity to become legal residents.
ReplyDelete2. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2010/09/passing-the-dream-act-is-the-right-thing-to-do-duncan-says.html
Education Secretary Arne Duncan thinks it’s the perfect idea to pass the act because everyone should have an equal opportunity to follow their dreams. He also said that “Above all it will stop punishing innocent people for the accidental circumstances of their birth. Many came here to the U.S. as young children. America is the only country they know. They’ve done exactly what was asked of them in their schools and they deserve every opportunity to go further in life,” Duncan said, I agree with this because we shouldn’t be punished for coming to American illegally if we are here for a good cause and to make the U.S.A a better place.
http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Dream-Act---Immigration-Law-Reform-in-2010?&id=3361262
This article talks about how 65,000 could become conditional residents each year, and eventually become permanent residents and citizens if they comply with current immigration rules and regulations. If someone deserves it I think they should be legalized, because they may be more educated than the average American so the illegal immigrants should get the same opportunity as the citizens do.
3. I think the act should be passed, because Americans are lazy and immigrants come to the United States for a better life and for a better education. So they are using the opportunities to make the world batter. More immigrants are getting better GPA’s then the average Americans which are citizens so why should well educated people be punished for doing something good, if in the future they can save the life of your loved one. Like myself I’m legal in the United States but I’m not a resident and I want to be a dentist I’m getting good grades much better grades then my friends which were born here. I think people should all get a chance to change the world for the best. I think we shouldn’t let someone make their dreams possible just because they are not legal here. In my opinion the people who choose to join the military go to high school and college should be able to become a resident of the United States. This act would benefit the United States a lot because we will have way more educated people and way more bilangual people that can help others if they can’t speak English. Knowing two languages in a privilege because you can get a better job and I think that’s another good idea why we should pass the act because we could help everyone around the world with all our language possibilities, not just English because not everyone knows English although they are in the United States.

ReplyDeleteThe DREAM Act was dealt a blow this week, but it’s already back for more. On Wednesday, the day after the defense authorization bill failed in the U.S. Senate and stalled efforts to attach the immigration bill and “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal as amendments, Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin reintroduced the DREAM Act. I think that the bill DREAM Act should be passed because The DREAM Act has actually been floating around Congress for almost 10 years now, and was first introduced by Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who now opposes the measure. The idea behind the bill is to give people who were under 16 when they entered the United States the opportunity to become legal residents. Those who have a GED or high school degree, have lived in the United States for at least five years, and are younger than 35 would be eligible for conditional legal status for six years. During that time, they would have to graduate from two years of college or honorably serve two or more years in the military. Then they would qualify for U.S. citizenship. The DREAM Act was the first step to immigration reform. It would have allowed opportunities for illegal immigrants who were brought here by their parents a shot at citizenship if they showed good moral character and received a GED or served two years in the military. Democrats' dreams of passing an immigration bill before the midterm elections died Tuesday, when Senate Republicans blocked a measure that could have carried legislation benefiting undocumented college students. Senate Democrats had planned to offer the bill, known as the Dream Act, as an amendment to a measure reauthorizing Defense Department programs. But Republicans thwarted that plan, gaining enough votes to defeat a motion to proceed to debate on the bill.

I don’t think that this act would really help towards illegal immigrants. But I also think that immigrants that came to the US and had no idea that they were illegal in the first place. People get into our country so easily and there is little we do to stop them. I think approving this act would encourage people to come into the US and just lie about their age. This act would encourage aliens to receive a higher education which would help us in the future. Americans are lazy as of today but I don’t think that the extra competition would help the US in many ways. Of course people who get the jobs would be more educated, but there would also be a higher amount of unemployed and possibly homeless people within the US. I don’t think this act would really help improve our economy. I think it would just make it worse. There would be a higher demand of supply and over population could increase.
The DREAM Act is a bill trying to be passed that would grant citizenship to illegal immigrants if they came to the country under the age of 16, complete highschool or have a GED, haave lived in the country for at least five years, and be younger than 35 would be eligible for legalitity for six years. If the immigrant completes two yeasrs of college or serve two years in the military would be granted full American citizenship.

My opinion of the DREAM Act are mixed. On one hand, I am against the DREAM Act because I don’t think we should be potenially rewarding illegals that snuck into our country. Not trying to be offensive to anyone, but during this economic recession, true Americans need jobs more than anything and not illegals that snuck in here. Another thing illegal immigrants do unintentionally is raise healthcare costs for us legal, tax paying citizens. Also, you have to think about what illegals are thinking about. If you snuck into this country illegally, then the assumption is that you did it because you are poor and you are looking to start a new life. Paying the bills to get your son or daughter though highschool and then through college might be nearly impossible and all the while they are doing this they must have a house too.
On the flip side, I am also for it because of the dream America was founded on. You can come here to start a new life and possibly make a fortune. Immigrants have just as much of a right to be here as long as they are positvely contributing to the country by getting a job and not following the leads of others in that not joining gangs.
This DREAM bill is to try and legalize immigrates that come in the U.S. by giving them this opportunity. They will have to be at least 16 but not over 35. They have to get graduate high school or get GED. Live in the U.S. for 6 years, and graduate from a 2 year collage of spend 2 years in the military.

This article goes into Obama’s promise for an immigration reform, it a good look at an overall standpoint.
I think it’s a good idea. It seems like today, this is one of our many big problems and I think this bill could really work in our favor. The big question is, is this too easy? Are we giving this away? I don’t really think that it’s necessarily easy. Think if you just moved into a foreign country and could hardly speak the language. Then you have to pass the requirements and learn how to adapt. This could be one of the big changes we need, but I think it’s not going to be something easy to pass. It’s already been around for 10 years, if it already taken that long, I don’t know if it will take another 10 or if it will ever pass at all. All I have to say is that if they do pass it, it’s one more step towards improving our country

The dream act is when immigrants from other countries have a chance to become a citizen. In order to become a citizen is that you have to graduate from high school, and have 2 years of college education are required or serve in the military. You have had to live in the United States for five years. You also have to be under 35 years of age.

This just gives information about what is required to become a citizen. Also an estimate of how many kids are raised in the United States each year that qualify for the act.
http://www.eworldpost.com/dream-act-2010-status-17168.html
This talks about the congress not passing the act because it didnt get enough votes. It needed 60 votes to be passed but they didnt get the votes.
My opinion about this is that its not fair to the immigrants. They should be able to have a chance like when the Europeans did when this country first came one. They want a better life here just like the early immigrants did and they gave them that opportunity but they cant give it to latin immigrants.

President Obama’s Secretary of Education stated that “passing the DREAM Act is the best thing to do because it will grant so many people happy futures.” She also stated that “it will stop punishing innocent people for things they didn’t have a say in.
http://chronicle.com/article/The-Dream-Act-Is-Dead-at/124560/
Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would benefit undocumented college students. Senate Democrats tried to pose the bill for approval. The vote against the bill on the Republican side also doomed the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” military bill allowing gay people to be able to be in the military.
In my opinion, the DREAM Act should not be passed due to our own overpopulation and food and economic crises. Our own United States citizens who were here legally are suffering in poverty so bad that many must choose between food or medical insurance. Many families are on welfare now and the current unemployment rate is 9.2% of the working class. I see homeless people on the streets in downtown Chicago more and more every time I go there. So if the U.S. Government passes this bill, I don’t think it will help our economy at all. I think it’ll make it worse. I think that we’d be telling people in Mexico and other countries that “If you bring your children here illegally, as long as they’re less than 16 years old, they might get citizenship.” I don’t think, for our legal citizens’ publicity, that this would benefit us, going back to the economy situation. Yes, the people who are going to be affected by the DREAM Act didn’t have a say in what their parents did, but they still shouldn’t be allowed to stay. I think our government should increase the amount of border patrol troops and make harsher laws on illegal immigration. Other countries might have the same law in effect right now, but we’d be doing the opposite in allowing this. I feel that the economy is worsening and not showing any signs of getting better any time soon. This is not a good thing, on the contrary to what most educational advisors are saying. Some are saying that this is the right thing to do for people because it is the caring way and the way to show that we are a caring country and that freedom is our nation’s policy. I say that freedom should not be allowed to illegal aliens.
what is it?
ReplyDeleteThe dream act is for people who aren’t born in the United States and would like to become a citizen. The only thing that they need is a GED or high school degree. They also need to have graduate two years of college. They may also have two or more years in the military. They have to have leaved in America for six years or more. You also have to be sixteen years or older.
MY Opinion
I have two opinions about the dream act that I would like to share. The first one is I read in a newspaper that this person had lived in America since he was five and he couldn’t serve in the military. I think that they should of let him because this is the only place that he know. This is what he calls home just because he wasn’t born here, but he was raised her since he was little doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be allowed to join the military. He want to help his only country that he knows and lived in. My other opinion to the dream act if you came here when you 16 or older you should have to work for it because we have to work have to get jobs and get our education. The should have to work hard then we had to work not to be mean. But I think that we shouldn’t just give citizenship about for free. If they want to be in America they should have to work for it if they want it bad enough. If you don’t want to be a citizenship then just don’t do the dream act. I am not trying to be mean I am just saying people need to work for things that they want. They don’t need to get a free pass.

The dream act stands for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act. This act means that if you graduate high school then you can have permant residency. This was brought to the United States Senate in 2001 and then was brought to the United States House of Representatives in 2009. Which took 8 years to pass though. Which is a long time. They are a loud to stay here for six years and after six years if they dont have there high school degree then they are discharged.

I think the DREAM act is a good idea for many reasons. One reason i think is people cant make decisions when they are young and the should let them get and education here because they might be able to where they use to live. That might be one of the reason they came to the U.S. is to get and education.Another reason is people might be really smart and if they kick them out the people will lose an opportunity to put there education to use.

ReplyDeleteTalks mostly about the people who used to support this bill but now don’t, and the negatives of the bill.

This article is the kids point of view. Why we should have the dream act made real.
the Dream Act states that if you are under the age of 35 and came here illegally then you would be given a chance at citizenship but there are stipulations. You coudln't get into trouble with the law and you'd have to get your high school degree or your g.e.d. Also attend 2 years of college or serve in the military.
I think it is a great idea. People have been trying to figure out what to do with the illegals and it's a good solution. It gives them a chance to fulfill their dreams. Besides why put the blame on children who had no say in crossing the border.Everyone deserves the chance to make something of their lives. People say that it is a wrong choice but they don't know that. They are blinded by the ill thought that these "aliens" are stealing their jobs. They don't, they work hard to get jobs we don't want. To get on the other side of the tracks. Citizenship cost money, money that a lot of them don't have, that's why they jump the border in the first place.
1. The Dream Act states that anyone one who comes into the country before the age of 16, completes high school, does 2 years of college/military service, and does not have a criminal record will qualify for U.S. citizenship. It also states that a person with a GED or high school degree, lived in the U.S. for at least 5 years, and is younger than 35 would be eligible for conditional legal status for six years.

http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Dream-Act---Immigration-Law-Reform-in-2010?&id=3361262
It summarizes that certain undocumented people can become U.S. citizens and we could use the taxpayer dollars to educate if they are willing. So the children can get an education without the fear of their family being deported.
http://www.legallanguage.com/legal-articles/dream-act-summary/
It states that it would be a problem because it might encourage illegal immigration. But it also states that if this law is passed then students will not be denied in-state tuition because they are illegal.
3. In my opinion the Dream Act is actually a great idea because then we can keep the immigrants that really want to be a citizen, they would be able to do their job better because of their higher education, and Americans students would work much harder to get a job. First we would allow only the best and brightest immigrants to become an American and they deserve it because a student who is already an American citizen would not work as hard as an immigrant who is trying to become a citizen because they think they have nothing to lose. Also, because the immigrant student was working so hard in school after they finish their requirements they would have a high education that could really help them from getting a job and then they would be the best choice. Finally, because American student may not get a job then they would work even harder than before to get a higher education and that’s good news because as our technology becomes more advance then the average American becomes more dumber, the reason for this is because they are not challenging themselves and this is because they do not need to work harder and do the less thing possible. These are the reasons why I think the Dream Act should be legalized.
1. What is it?
ReplyDeleteThe article is about immigration coming into America, and becoming citizens. The bill has been around for about ten years now. If the bill wins it will send about one million young immigrants on the path to citizenship. The bill gives people who were under sixteen when they entered the United States a chance to become legal. For the ones that have a GED degree or high school degree and are under thirty-five six years would be eligible for a conditional six years. During the time they have to graduate from two years of college or honorably serve two or more years in the military.
2. Find two outside sources, summarize each one in two sentences and list links.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act
The article is summarizing the dream act, in a sense that it grants immigrants a legal status that is normally only granted from the parents.
http://www.change.org/ideas/view/the_dream_act_for_america_in_2010
The article makes a point that the immigrants cannot further themselves in life due to there parents bringing them in illegally, Even if they have potential they would not be able to pay taxes, or contribute in any way unless they go through the citizenship tests.
3. What is your opinion - make sure that you write in a professional manner that is appropriate and supported with research. (300 word minimum required - us MS Word)
I think this bill should be passed, mainly because the people who came here as minors had no choice and were forced into coming here, although there were good reasons why they came here. Most likely for a new start. I fully support this, I think the terms are reasonable and it will help many people, I don’t see how it could hurt anyone. Theres more up sides then down sides, it would also help the economuy in a sense that more people would be able to buy and afford certain products, because they have gotten an education, and fully deserve where they are.
1. To give people who were under 16 when they entered the United States the opportunity to become legal residents.
ReplyDelete2. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2010-09-20/news/ct-edit-dream-20100920_1_college-or-military-service-dream-act-alien-minors-act
Senate President Harry Reid wants to attach the Dream act to the defense authorization bill, which includes critical spending for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Dream act will be vetoed if it includes funding for the wasteful engine project.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/21/AR2010092106100.html
“Immigration advocates accused Republicans of sacrificing the well-being of thousands of young people to cater to nativist sentiment.” The congressman will use the Dream act to get votes.
3. I think the Dream Act is a good idea. Immigrant would be able to get education and then the opportunity to become legal residents. Yet it shouldn’t be passed if it is attached to an unnecessary jet engine funding. When there’s a good idea they want to attach it to something unnecessary keeping it from being passed. The immigrants would become citizens better prepared to live in America. Congress shouldn’t use passing bills just to get reelected.
Dream act
ReplyDeletethe bill goes to illegal Immigrants who are under 16 when they came to the U.S. If you have a GED or high school degree and have lived in the U.S. for five years. you also have to be yunger then 35. then they have to graduate from two years of college Then they get citizenship.

It says that if the U.S. was going to pass the bill that it would be easier for Immigrants to become illegal. so i think they do not want this bill passed.
http://www.change.org/ideas/view/the_dream_act_for_america_in_2010
they say that most of the people are for it. and hope it is past for there family.
3) I think the dream act it a mad idea because it only encourageis the immigrats to come over to the U.S. and we have a lot of U.S. citizens out of jobs right now we dont need any more people. plus if the bill is passed that is more people for are goverment to take care of. Also what does this say about are border patrol, it tells me that there not doing there job. Because they shouldent even get over here. if this bill is passed more people will be out of jobs and or fighting for jobs, less food and welfare for some people, and i think crime rates will be so high.

The DREAM Act was proposed in 2007. There is a separation between immigration reformers.
I think the DREAM Act should be passed because immigrants may also be important to America. Military officials think immigration is good because it can increase recruitment. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20100921/pl_yblog_upshot/what-is-the-dream-act). Some illegal immigrants are not getting the support they need such as jobs and education because they are not real citizens. This is another reason the act should be passed. Some ways immigrants can be important to America include more police officers, doctors, construction workers. Immigrants can replace unemployed people and, possibly, help the unemployed people.

My opinion on this matter is that I agrre. I think people should have the right to become citizens in America and we are making it hard for them to do so. If this law is passed young mexican men and women can become citizens.
The DREAM Act stands for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors. It was introduced to the Congress about ten years ago. It is a bill that will make anybody under the age of 16 when they entered the United States the opportunity to become a legal citizen a legal status of six years. Also, if someone is 35 years or younger and has a GED or high school diploma. They also would have had to live in the United States for at least five years. During the six years they will have to serve two years in the military or graduate from two years of college. Out of the 2.1 billion people that would qualify, only 825,000 people will actually gain citizenship because those who are qualified would be able to afford college or vocational school for the required two years.
ReplyDeleteI think that the DREAM Act would be a good idea. It is a good idea for many reasons. It will encourage more minorities to join the military. Also, it will help motivate more people to get a higher education. Having more educated minorities will help our future because there will be more people able to work. Not only will it give them the opportunity to have a job but since they are educated, the joob will be a higher paying and be more important to our society. I don’t think that this act will offend anyone because it will help them out and help our or communities.

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act was first introduced in the United States Senate on August 1, 2001 and most recently re-introduced there and the United States House of Representatives on March 26, 2009. This is a matter of whether aliens should have rights to become U.S. citizens. According to the 2009 version of the senate bill, DREAM Act beneficiaries must: Have proof of having arrived in the United States before age 16. Have proof of residence in the United States for a least five consecutive years since their date of arrival, compliance with Selective Service. Be between the ages of 12 and 35 at the time of bill enactment. Have graduated from an American high school or obtained a GED. Be of "good moral character". This bill has been trying to get passed for almost 10 years now, and still has not done so.

This is just a general knowledge of what the bill is, where it began, and how it works. It gets into the details of what is required to be a part of the U.S.

It shows how it affects people and what they can do to change their lives.
I think that everyone has a shot at a life that they w ant. If they left a country because they were unhappy and thought they may be able to provide a better life for a family in The United States, then that is what they should do. Bring their families here and make for a better life. What I believe should not be done, is to live here illegally. There are plenty of ways and opportunities to gain citizenship. You must obtain things like GEDs and green cards because in the long run when they look for work, schooling, financial aid, etc, they are more likely to be turned down or not helped at all. America has tons of job opportunities and things that can be done to help everyone; I just think that they should all take the proper steps of achieving it, just like everyone else.

ReplyDeleteOn September 14, 2010, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced his plans to add the DREAM Act as an amendment to the Department of Defense authorization bill. The DREAM Act continues to attract bipartisan sup-port and now, for the first time, also enjoys the strong backing of the House and Senate leadership, all of the relevant committee chairs, and President Obama, as well as by leading business such as Microsoft and our na-tion’s military leaders, including the former secretary of state, General Colin Powell.

This article is about illegal immigrants trying to become citizens of the United States of America. This bill should help hard working illegals the dream act has been around for about ten years. The bill has not been passed yet but is close it needed six votes. Democrats are with the amendment and most republicans are against it. On this topic I think hard working people should be allowed in our country. If this law is passed any one can become a citizen in the USA.
The Dream Act is a bill that allows no US citizens citizenship if they complete four years of high school, and either two years serving in the armed services or four years in college. Also, you can only be eligible if you are under the age of sixteen when the bill is passed. I believe that the bill has both upsides and downsides. I think the bill is a good thing for the many illegal minors in our country because it would provide a new opportunity and a chance at a prosperous life. The bill would decline the number of illegal’s in the country but only if they really want it. The bill would pick out the few immigrants that are really willing to do whatever it takes to make them a new life in America. Going all the way through high school and then either through college or the armed forces is a hard thing to do and it would show the ones really ready to make the sacrifice. Lastly, it would increase the number of taxpayers in the country so we would be increasing revenue in the country.
ReplyDeleteThe downsides of the bill is the fact that some of the immigrants might be scared or shy away from this opportunity because they need to dedicate many years of their life into his commitment just because they could live in this country with pretty much the same lifestyle if they just don’t get caught or speak up. Also, we as law-abiding, taxpaying citizens, we would have to pay for the educations of these immigrants because they are probably leaving Mexico and other countries for a new, more prosperous life in the United States. Altogether, I think the Dream Act has more positives than negatives so I believe we should pass this bill just to give those few immigrants willing to make the sacrifice to get a better life for America and also the world
